New Music: Mass Minor – Get Up

Published On: October 4th, 2026|

With Get Up, Mass Minor issue another startling sonic manifesto in the lead-up to their Beyond the Edge of Reason album.

The LP, which is out this November via Metropolis Records, is one that fans of dark wave and post-punk will equally find of interest, judging by Get Up and the previous single, Nowhere Now. Mass Minor (American musician Andrew J. Martin, Jr.) looks to the relentless bass lines of post-punk and the sharp synths of dark wave to ponder on the nature of religious belief and its place in our lives.

Mass Minor doesn’t hide behind abstract theology and airy metaphors to drive home the song’s unvarnished message. Some might be offended; others will debate or embrace it, but no matter where you stand on the mix of religion and self-reflection, this is a damn good song, with a decidedly catchy and leftfield chorus I can see going down well with live audiences. If you’re a fan of headstrong and genre-avoidant alt rock in the style of Blaqk Audio, The Black Queen, and Mareaux, you’ll need to add this to your music libraries.

“Get Up is a conversation with God at 169 BPM about sin, money, mortality and the things we sacrifice our lives to,” discloses Martin. “It comes from this idea of asking God to save us from problems we created ourselves. Maybe it’s not God’s job to save us. Maybe we need to fix our own shit. You’re the one holding the light. Get up.”

Get Up and Nowhere Now are streaming on Spotify and Apple Music, and can be downloaded on Bandcamp. For updates on Beyond the Edge of Reason, connect with Mass Minor on Instagram or Facebook.
