New Music: Wallace – New Friends

Philadelphia-based trio Wallace serves up rock and roll that is emotionally charged but far from emo. You can get a real flavour of their sound and style on the video for New Friends.

On the surface, the song’s initial impact is of pop-punk energy that’s impossible to resist. But the searing guitars, and manic rhythm section are countered by impactful lyrics and a no holds barred, and emotionally heightened vocal performance. The latter especially lifts the song to a higher sonic plane, adding greater meaning to the overall message of the at time devastatingly honest lyrics.

The song is part of their Grapefruit project, a series of songs partnered with a short film which the band says, “examines the story of love lost, pain, forgiveness and the search for release in a necessary bitterness.”

The track, along with much more music from Wallace, is now streaming on Bandcamp and Spotify. You can find other details on how to listen to New Friends by checking out Wallace’s social media accounts, which include Instagram and Facebook.

Wallace is Adam Figurelle on drums, Hannah Pugh on bass, and Wallace Gerdy on guitar and vocals.
