New Music: Debris Discs – Cypress Tree (feat. Test Card Girl)

Cypress Tree is the second single to be taken from Debris Discs’ forthcoming debut album, due out this Autumn. The track features a guest appearance from the hotly-tipped Manchester musician Catherine Burgis, aka Test Card Girl.

A gossamer-light ambience flows through the arrangement and vocals, part Beach House, part Belle and Sebastian at times, with occasional Northern Soul flourishes in the percussion. It’s at odds with the lyrics, which reflect a swirling mist of daydreams, existential dread, and plans for the future, creating an appealing, offbeat but endearing indie-pop sound.

You can catch up with Debris Discs on Instagram and Twitter. Cypress Tree is out now, and you can listen to it and more music from the band on Spotify and Apple Music, while their back catalogue can be downloaded on Bandcamp. Bandcamp purchases of Cypress Tree also get an exclusive bonus track called Napoleon Relic.
