New Music: IVES – Eyes Wide Shut

Since September 2025’s Precious Things debut, Los Angeles duo IVES have built a bijou, flawless collection of singles.

With last month’s Dahlia still fresh in our memories, Chris and Ivory (Ives) Kellogg have shared the equally unknowable and otherworldly, but possibly carnal for all that, Eyes Wide Shut. Maybe the best way to enjoy the song is with your eyes closed and mind open. Given that the outward sheen of the track is deceivingly placid and the vocals of Ives soothe the soul, you quickly appreciate that much is happening under the surface.

It’s possible that the track’s title refers to Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 film of the same name, another mystery to uncover. Like that film, appearances aren’t everything here, but there’s no danger close at hand. It’s noticeable that the arrangement has layers; we get occasional, teasing glimpses at the roles of indie, dream pop and post-punk under the smoothest of productions. Another mystery within a mind palace of delicious mysteries.

Connect with IVES on Instagram or TikTok for all the latest band news, including an appearance at Permanent Records Roadhouse on the 22nd of November.

Eyes Wide Shut and Dahlia – as well as the rest of the band’s back catalogue – can be heard on all major music platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
