New Music: Eve Parker Finley x Star (Ah-Mer-Ah-Su) – Icarus

A Greek myth may seem an unusual topic for a track, but on Icarus, Montreal’s Eve Parker Finley (F.K.A. Lonely Boa) teams up with Star (Ah-Mer-Ah-Su) to give the cautionary tale a modern, insightful and almost spiritual twist.

The musician, whose TikTok posts have garnered her a large following, takes elements of synthpop and baroque pop and embroiders them with a strong 80s power ballad energy. The late-night ambience of the song adds to the emotional heft of the vocals and literate nature of the lyrics, giving Icarus a real sense of purpose and positivity.

Eve’s take on the story of Icarus, and the subsequent message of the lyrics, is that “It’s not his ambition that led him to his wings melting and eventual death, but that it’s that he flew alone. Had he had more support, he could have gone farther. There is so much more possible if you have a community behind you vs. being alone.”

Icarus is out now and can be streamed and downloaded on all major digital platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
