New Music: KIN – Soapdish
London-based trio KIN (Grace, Ritu, and Adam) make indie pop with a decidedly electronic and deeply human flavour. New single Soapdish is a moody but deeply affecting masterclass in intelligent pop music.
Soapdish has a strong 90s energy about it, though it certainly doesn’t live in the past. The shimmering and bright aspects of the arrangement are reminiscent of Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, and Dubstar, something that also is found in Grace Strickland de Souza’s emotionally evocative vocal performance.

The trio pack a hell of a punch on Soapdish, even though it’s something of an indie power ballad – one with an honesty that’s rare in breakup songs. The track’s impact grows with every listen, as the full measure of the lyrics become clear. Who knew heartache could be so beautiful?

KIN are Ritu Arya (Umbrella Academy, Red Notice, Feel Good) on drums, model and theatre maker Grace Strickland de Souza (Klein Blue, Gracie Souz) on vocals, and actor Adam Collier (National Theatre, RSC, Sydney Opera House) on guitar.
