New Music: Lilac Attitude – Crocodile Tears

Recorded at the famous Hansa studios in Berlin, Crocodile Tears is full of riot grrrl poise and indie-pop power.

The first single from the Berlin-based outfit’s upcoming debut album, Crocodile Tears taps into the tumult and joy of growing up within its effervescent lyrics, and musically a nostalgia for the past that young people like Lilac Attitude are often being told was much, much better.

Describing their sound as ‘floral punk,’ Lilac Attitude bring a lot of as-live oomph to Crocodile Tears, with the gritty, earthy production no doubt influenced by the band’s relentless gigging over the last year or so. Their vocalist, Jacqueline Wälle, has a confident swagger in the style of Genevieve Glynn-Reeves of Gen and the Degenerates and the revolutionary air of Kathleen Hanna in Bikini Kill mode, with Wälle imperious as she spearheads the band’s wild ride into their own bright future. Mark this band as one to watch in 2027!

Wälle says about the meaning behind Crocodile Tears, “There’s something beautifully messed up about being a young adult. One minute, you’re completely lost. The next, you’re utterly hopeful for what’s to come.”

“Perhaps growing up is simply going through the fire and coming out the other side with a few scars and a smile. A dried-up river where the tears used to be, because eventually, the storm in your chest finally settles. You find yourself looking back on a chapter of your life that once felt endless, just long enough to realize that everything that remains now belongs to you.”

“We are all just wannabes and could-have-beens, carrying around our doubts, our angst and turmoil. Somehow, all of it makes us who we are. After all they were never ‘Crocodile Tears’.”

Crocodile Tears is out now on A Tree in a Field Records. You can pick up the track on Bandcamp, and it’s streaming on Spotify and Apple Music. Get the latest tour and music news by checking out Lilac Attitude on Instagram or TikTok.
