New Music: Nighdrator – Wilted Wings

Hailing from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Nighdrator describe their sound as “loud, post-apocalyptic, and underworld ethereal.” It’s a great description, but even that doesn’t fully capture the multiple influences threaded into their finely woven sound.

Wilted Wings has a shoegaze soul, broad dreamy brushstrokes lifting the song from everyday concerns. The band takes that somewhere much darker and more blackened than you’d expect or could even imagine though. It’s a track that is brooding and rumbling in its intensity, sure, though not menacing or oppressive. Rather, it’s all-enveloping and oddly soothing in its Chelsea Wolfe or True Widow style gothic/doomer demeanour.
