New Music: Night Drive – Summerwaves

Night Drive’s Rodney Connell and Brandon Duhon first met in Mexico City at a midnight screening of the Panos Cosmatos’ Beyond The Black Rainbow. Bonding over a shared love for the movie’s visual imagery and electronic soundscapes, the duo formed Night Drive who recently released their new single Summerwaves.

Now a trio since drummer Nick Dudek joined the group, Summerwaves is the first single from the band’s upcoming Position II EP. The song is an exploration in sound that inhabits the hazy dream state where post-punk and coldwave meet.

As if casting a fog between the past and the present, you feel like you know Summerwaves already as its shifting shades and blurred outlines initially soothe. Yet it also feels uneasy, and there’s a feeling that you’re missing something, losing yourself to nostalgia and half-remembered moments.

Night Drive’s Position II EP is released on the 4th of August and can be pre-ordered on the band’s website. Summerwaves can also be purchased on Bandcamp and streamed on Spotify and Apple Music. Other listening options can be found on the trio’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds.
