New Music: Candid Faces – Coming Home

Behind its retro artwork and seemingly reassuring track title, on Coming Home, Hull quintet Candid Faces produce a blistering commentary on how our families and others can leave lasting damage in their wake.

Primarily driven by a post-punk aesthetic, Coming Home explores similar sounds to very ‘English’ bands like Wet Leg, Blur, and Elastica. Referencing Britpop but with a grunge/psych feel as it examines the flipside to Cool Britannia memes, Coming Home is both insightful and a damned good mosh-pit bop.

Reveals band member Liz: “Coming Home may seem like a fun jokey track that pokes fun at bigots and abusers but for our guitarist it was a healing process and a way for them to write about difficult experiences from their childhood, even if it was just an ambiguous four lines”.

You can also hear Coming Home on YouTube Music, Deezer, and Apple Music. To keep in the loop with new music and upcoming live appearances from Candid Faces, head over to their Facebook and Instagram pages.

Candid Faces is fronted by Liz Shaw, with Taro Keeitch and Joe Beeks on the guitars, Ben Hales on bass, and Kurt Jackson on drums.
