New Music: LB Beistad – If I Was A Cowboy

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, the music of LB Beistad explores some of the most prominent genres we associate with Music City USA. Have a listen to the dark country tones of If I Was A Cowboy and you will be bowled over by the magnolia drenched energy of the vocals and arrangement.

Americana and dreampop isn’t a fusion I’ve really come across before, but it’s the best way to describe the haunting yet subtly country themes being explored in the lyrics and sound of the song.

The yearning vocals evoke comparisons with the old-time AM radio melancholy of Orville Peck and Lana Del Rey, though the track looks to the likes of Mazzy Star, Big Thief and sometimes Slowdive for sonic reference points. I can visualise myself sitting on a porch somewhere, drinking a sloe gin fizz as If I Was A Cowboy floats through the air, as majestic as it is melancholic.

Says Beistad about the track, “I had been sitting on this song for a while and tried to record it by myself several times, but it never sounded as fantastical and dreamy as I wanted. But thankfully I met Jared Corder of Polychrome Ranch, and he helped me make the song sound like how I imagined in my head. I wanted that heavy dream-like quality in the guitars, and I’m very happy with how everything turned out.”
