New Music: Jack Moody – Monster

Monster sees Asheville, North Carolina based Jack Moody – the solo project of musician Gary Watson – bring a brightness and real sense of depth to bedroom indie pop. And that slightly disquieting Dali-esque artwork just rocks!

The vocals are pitched into a haunting, echoing place, as if influenced by the yearning, searching nature of the lyrics. The melody is surprisingly upbeat given the song’s subject matter, post-punk and dreampop drawn together in a sharp yet warm confluence of sound.    

The track is influenced by Watson’s real-life experience. He says, “Monster is about my battle with anxiety and depression. I tried to create an eerie and intimate setting with the dissonant guitars and synths, but still keeping to my beat driven roots.”
