New Music: Mutual Shock – Inheritance
The pulsating and at times emotionally bleak Inheritance features on Stimulus Progression, the debut EP from Seattle based electronic outfit Mutual Shock.
Dark synthwave tones are to the fore on Inheritance, though the vocals evoke a more post-punk atmosphere as the stark lyrics and metronomic rhythm of the melody increasingly dominate the song’s melancholic ambience. If you like TR/ST and Molchat Doma, there’s a lot here – and on the EP – for you to enjoy.

Says the artist about the title of the EP, “Stimulus progression was a dystopian idea from the Muzak division of Warner Bros, to play incrementally faster songs in offices and subliminally encourage more work. The program was discontinued but I think we are still living in a society where your worth is equated with your productivity. And that, to put it lightly, is bullshit.”
Mutual Shock play a series of live dates in the wake of the EP release, including appearances in Seattle, Washington, and Tacoma in Washington state.

Stimulus Progression can be streamed on all digital platforms including Apple Music and Spotify, and the seven-song EP can be downloaded on Bandcamp. For gig and music updates, be sure to follow Mutual Shock on Instagram.
