New Music: Lily Kershaw – Call Whoever This Makes You Think Of (Except Your Narcissistic Ex)
Lily Kershaw saves the best for last on her flawless folk-flavoured Pain & More album, with the wonderfully-titled Call Whoever This Makes You Think Of (Except Your Narcissistic Ex).
The track is far from being a dark song, though it is, in fact, a sensitive exploration of depression – specifically her own – and the way it can impact life, love, and even daily living. It’s also about loss, and missing the opportunities to talk to loved one, in this instance a father.

It’s a gentle song, full of deep emotions and seemingly mundane events that, in retrospect, could have been important. Having lost my father recently, the lyrics hit hard, but so do the good memories it brings back. If you like Natalie Merchant, Amy Ray, and Brandi Carlile, then this is for you.
She says of the song and the genesis of the heartfelt message behind the lyrics, “I was really struggling to do laundry, to just get out of bed. I wasn’t telling anyone, and I was living alone. I love the idea of, if you hear this song, and it makes you think of someone, you should probably call them.”
Pain & More can be downloaded on Bandcamp and is streaming on all major platforms. Make your way to TikTok, Facebook, or Instagram for all the latest news from Lily Kershaw and to learn more about the album.
