New Music: NUOVO TESTAMENTO – Picture Perfect

With live dates this September and a new EP in July, NUOVO TESTAMENTO have treated us to the bright Italo pop and house sounds of Picture Perfect.

I was previously aware of Chelsey Crowley (on vocals), Giacomo Zatti (on drums) and Andrea Mantione (on synths) from other musical projects of theirs, so I was rather surprised by the comparatively light tones of EPs like Exposure and New Earth.

Picture Perfect is a taster for their new Trouble EP, and sees the trio moving to a more pop and, at times, retro sound. There is a strong Italian theme to the track, but with a transatlantic flair.

That gets you a song that is steeped in the Rimini sound of the early 80s but also the New York electro scene centred around Danceteria and similar clubs back then. This is a song to dance to with someone you love – or want to love you.

Talking about Picture Perfect’s lyrics, the band reveals, “It’s about a sweet, pure kind of desire – adoration, admiration, wanting, hope. It’s free of doubt and full of conviction.”

“There’s no pain in this song, only the joy of someone’s existence and knowing that they are meant for you. It’s asking for trust until someone knows as much as you do about who you will be to one another.”

Trouble is now up for pre-order in digital and vinyl formats on Bandcamp – EU vinyl orders are here – and is set for release on the 25th of July. The band has also lined up some live appearances, including dates with Sextile in September. For news on those, head over to Instagram.
