New Music: SIKADE – body of water

SIKADE is the art-pop-inclined musical project of Oslo, Norway based singer, songwriter, harpist, and producer Linnea Vestre.

On her new single, body of water, SIKADE adds ripples of shoegaze and dream pop to that art-pop sound, one that is given a fluid energy by the almost-constant presence of the harp and strings. The artist describes the lyrics as being “full of symbolism and ambiguity,” and that is given added weight by the wistful vocal delivery.

 As she sings, “you do the right thing, to look like someone who, would do the right thing,” you’re not quite sure if that is proposed as a strength or a flaw, leaving you to reflect on your own experiences to come to a conclusion. One for admirers of Big Thief and Nilüfer Yanya, but also, it’ll pique the interests of Ethel Cain and Beach House fans.
