New Music: senses – have you ever had a broken heart?

senses escape gravity and reality on have you ever had a broken heart?, the final track on their all the heavens LP.

The immediate reference points for have you ever had a broken heart? are Spaceman 3 and Mazzy Star, as the instrumentation has a strong indie and shoegaze presence. The reverb-heavy guitar is more akin to country, and the vocals have a restrained rock swagger about them, even as they voice feelings of heartbreak and desolation.

This is a band that knows their musical history but, more importantly, how to wield that knowledge to create a sound of their own.

The album is out now on vinyl on Bandcamp, while have you ever had a broken heart? is also available on limited-edition green vinyl with a remix from indie legend Andy Bell. For details on streaming options and stockists, follow senses on Instagram or Facebook.
