New Music: Lazy Trail – Post Tour

Post-tour syndrome hits very differently from coming back from a holiday, the highs and lows often being more extreme and emotional.

Lazy Trail – the musical project of songwriter Emma Willer, named after the street she grew up on – reflects on that on the appropriately named Post Tour. It doesn’t focus on scenery, holiday snaps, and weeks spent in buses and bars, though.

Instead, it looks at the emotional side of that journey, not the physical – though the effects of journeying through life are noted in the lyrics. Willer tumbles through different moods and different time signatures, as if in thrall to change, not sure whether to resist or acquiesce, making Post Tour thought-provoking indie pop that is wistful and magical.

“Post Tour is my favorite song of ours to play live, and one I’m most proud of from our upcoming album,” says Willer. I wrote it right after a run of shows, when I’m usually flooded with inspiration from bands…”

“Themes of depression, friendship, growing older, and dissipating relationships all peer out from the shrubbery skirting the trails. There’s the continual stirring of a fruit fly, the dripping of the moon, and the possibilities of eternal friendship. Throughout it all is a hopefulness and longing for simpler days.”
