New Music: Coach Party – Nurse Depression

Alt-rock quartet Coach Party hit hard with Nurse Depression, ahead of an extensive UK tour and some impressive support slots.

Coach Party, who play with the legendary Indochine in France this March, express so much of the caustic defiance of 70s punk, as well as its subsequent and modern iterations, on Nurse Depression.

The vocals and guitar solo, especially, evoke those heady days when it looked like the music industry was ready to fall, and the quartet casts a healthily cynical eye on the expectations placed on a band or artist in the modern era.

The band has a punk attitude here but doesn’t live in the past: their high-energy, no-frills, no-filters sound puts them alongside Turnstile, Hole, and Joe & The Shitboys – factoring in hardcore and grunge into a song that asserts that Coach Party will do things on their terms. As the band’s bassist and lead vocalist Jess Eastwood says, “don’t trust the numbers, put your faith back into art.”

As well as the February UK tour and Indochine slots, Coach Party will also bring their visceral take on rock and roll to venues in Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, and the US in the coming months.

Nurse Depression and the band’s September ’25 album, Caramel, can be picked up on Bandcamp via Chess Club Records and streamed on Apple Music and Spotify. Visit Facebook or Instagram for the latest band news and venue/ticket details for those live dates.
