New Music: Eve Maret – Gethsemani

Ahead of the release of her Diamond Cutter album, Eve Maret has dropped a visualiser for featured song, Gethsemani.

Contemplative and faith-driven, Gethsemani has a hymnal tone to it, one that has resonances of Christian and Sufi mysticism in the way multiple, repeating layers of sound are laid down to build a hypnotic aesthetic. It’s incredibly calming, even as the lyrics lead your mind to find meaning in them, and in yourself, building an oasis-like diversion from the daily grind.

The track came about during a weekend retreat at Gethsemani, which is the oldest Catholic monastery in the US. Whilst there, the Nashville-based musician spent time with the monastery’s music director, Brother Luke.

Reveals Maret, “That night, I had a dream where I heard a song that felt very familiar – I tried looking it up the next morning, then realized that the song didn’t exist yet. I recorded Gethsemani as soon as I returned home.”

Diamond Cutter is scheduled for release on the 17th of April and is available to pre-order in digital format on Bandcamp. For updates and details of pre-save options for the LP, head to Eve Maret’s Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok feeds.
