New Music: Velocity Made Good – Big Breakers

Velocity Made Good assemble some block-rocking beats and indie/rock riffs on the high-octane sounds of Big Breakers.

The track, which the bands say is about “making peace with insecurity and refusing to let it get in the way of the joy of playing,” captures the positivity and pleasure to be found in music, and finds itself within an unusual sonic and genre duality.

The beats are big and meaty, breakbeat with an LCD Soundsystem/Chemical Brothers bounce to them that will get you dancing like no one is watching, urging you to lose control and free yourself in the music.

Yet it also, thanks to the highly expressive vocals and rough edges of the production – the Groningen duo’s new EP was produced by Josh Baxter of PVA – Big Breakers could easily find itself striking a chord with rock fans. It’s no surprise that Velocity Made Good have built their reputation via performances on the European gig circuit, as it could set a stone on fire; it’s so hot to the touch.

Big Breakers can be streamed on Bandcamp and Spotify. For news on the EP, as well as details of upcoming live dates, follow Velocity Made Good on Instagram.
