New Music: Jodie Langford – Dog Vs Bear

The fiercely observant and passion-fuelled verbal missiles of Jodie Langford’s October 2025 Softly Spoken album remain at the heart of Dog Vs Bear.

Its industrial and electropunk sound is driven by a strong political message, but it’s also a warning. Langford usually hits a spoken word presence on recordings, and that is strong within the adrenaline beats of Dog Vs Bear.

Equally, Langford – joined once again on production, bass and backing vocals by Endoflevelbaddie – allows her singing voice, similar to Sprints’ Karla Chubb, to add to the fire of the lyrics. This isn’t a call to arms; it’s a bold statement of fact– if you come for Langford or her friends, be ready for the fight of your lives.

“The political climate is absolutely terrifying at the moment,” states Langford in relation to the lyrics of Dog Vs Bear. “There’s the genocide in Gaza, far-right and extremist views increasing, war, women and their reproductive health being at risk, TRUMP, a potential recession, minority groups being subjected to unthinkable acts of hate and much, much, more.”

“It feels important to release this song now as it captures the rage of how devastating everything is. Getting the album wrapped up last year was a great opportunity to take a break from writing for a bit, so now that we’ve had a bit of downtime, it’s good to be writing again and tackling current issues and experiences.”
