New Music: Kelsey Please – Another World

There are times when desire transforms into a kind of desperation, one where lust and a loss of the self become the main driving forces.

Another World is immersed in emotions, which is unusual and highly exciting within music that originates in the dark wave scene. Here, Hong Kong based Kelsey Please possesses a voice that makes you doubt who is the seducer and the seduced. Is the narrator the victim of their own needs, indulging their ego into sensory overload, or are they enticing the target of the affections to lose themselves? There’s enough uncertainty here, playing with your own senses, for you to create your own narrative and make the song yours.

Powered by a bass line that builds an air of suspense and a lead guitar melody that grows from hardly present to entering a deadly, heightened emotional dance with the vocals, this is a song you feel as much as you hear it. Fans of Boy Harsher, Cold Cave, and Lebanon Hanover will love the scenario and textures shared with us here and in other works by the artist.

Another World is out now on MTWM streaming on all the main music platforms, including Bandcamp and Spotify. Follow Kelsey Please on Instagram to stay in the loop with all their latest news.
