New Music: Draumr x Matya – A Lonely View

Occasionally a song is described as cinematic, but in this instance that is quite literal, as this collab by Draumr and Matya was actually written for a movie.

A Lonely View will feature in How To Disappear And Never Be Found, written and directed by Ryan Sheehy, and if the track is anything to go by, we’re in for a sumptuous and sensual treat. The video, directed by French musician, producer, and filmmaker Gabriel Cheurfa – aka Draumr – is as much a feast for the eyes as the song is for the soul, shot on 16mm film Kodak film.

It comes off like a 40s on 50s radio broadcast, with faded memories of smoky bars entwined in the lush strings and the breathy, sometimes forlorn, vocals of American vocalist Matya. I’m a sucker for a certain sound: expertly crafted pop that has the bohemian stylism and implied decadence of Air, Broadcast, and Nouvelle Vague. I’ll be adding this song to that list.

A Lonely View can be heard on Bandcamp and Spotify. For all the latest news from Draumr, be sure to connect with the project on Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook.
