New Music: TIMOTEI – …happiness

As the release of his Something’s Destroying Me Slowly EP approaches, TIMOTEI navigates the contradictions of modern London on …happiness.

Growing from smouldering pop embers to a blaze of noise and words drenched in the questioning and disquieting spirit of post-punk, it reflects the zeitgeist of London living in its wildly varying highs and lows: a series of deep thoughts and bold statements that will be familiar to many city dwellers, even those in the throes of success.

Originally from Sheffield, the actor, poet, and musician moved elsewhere to chase a new life, and here, you can hear him contemplate the costs – financial, personal, and emotional – that come with that. Even if you achieve the image of success, can you be happy in a life and place that leaves you feeling like you exist without substance? That is a lot to pack into a song, but there’s no sense of being crowded or rushed, as TIMOTEI keeps the relationships between him and the listener at a very close level.

London-based TIMOTEI has described …happiness as “a song about wanting everything and feeling nothing at the same time, and somehow still dancing, searching, and still being okay with it, the mess of it all.”

He adds, “I believe in this song more than I ever believed in anything before; it has haunted me every single day and night for the last, however many months/years, and it will probably continue to do so forever. I don’t always believe in miracles, but I do believe this song was meant to exist, and from tonight it’s all completely and truly all yours.”
