New Music: Astari Nite – All Else is a Curse

Astari Night (Mychael Ghost, Illia Tulloch, M. Sallons, and Howard Melnick) make a speedy return to the blog with new single All Else is a Curse. It sees them prepare for a new album, which will be released by Negative Gain later this year.

The Miami-based band certainly knows how to artfully fuse classic and modern dark rock electronic sounds, as you can hear on All Else is a Curse. The more edgy though chart-friendly alternative chart sounds of the 80s are present, a confection of Psychedelic Furs and The Sisters of Mercy. However, they’re given a muscular yet dreamy aesthetic that provides the song with shimmering, melancholic modernity – something Astari Nite excel at.

Frontman Mycheal says solitary lockdown listening to the likes of ABBA, Bowie, and Yazoo, as well as time spent alone, has brought something to the song; “Often, I would slide away in thought during these times only to be reminded of voices I might never hear again,” he muses. I fell in love with a lot of laughter and simple conversing during these engagements,” he says. “As melancholy as I may appear, I am carelessly smiling deep inside. The more I dwell on who or what moment in time this song is about, I like to believe that sadness is an art form and as cliché as it may sound, it meant everything to me.”
