New Music: Bakénéko – Remember

LA duo Bakénéko are no strangers to the music world, as their music has already aired on Amazon Prime TV, E! Network due to their work in the film industry. That cine-literate sensibility is also present in their new song Remember.

The duo says the track is about ‘remembering to love each other despite our personal conflicts and bruised feelings’ and cite J-pop and alt.rock as inspirations for the song. You can pick up hints of anime theme tunes as well – Yoko Takahashi’s A Cruel Angel’s Thesis came to mind in the vocals, but that is reimagined via a global cultural fusion, aided by the seamless switching of lyrics from Japanese to English and back. The synths and vocals have a clear yet emotive quality similar in tone to CHVRCHES and Purity Ring, giving the song a lush and anthemic feel.
