New Music: Claw The Thin Ice – Fever Dreamer

Manchester quartet Claw The Thin Ice prime us for the release of their fifth LP with a video for its title track, Fever Dreamer.

The song is the product of five years of life experiences – good and not so good – and that is reflected in both the ambiguous nature of the lyrics, but also the multi-layered nature of the arrangement.

Balancing mood and melody, Claw The Thin Ice bring together shoegaze, post-hardcore and math rock on a track that shifts the balance between those genres to give the vocals – and lyrics – added emotional heft.

The eight-minute run time of Fever Dreamer seems to pass by ever so quickly, blurring the passage of time so much I didn’t even perceive its length at first listen.

I suspect that some of the band listen to Swervedriver, Paradise Lost, Shellac, and Slint to varying degrees, but with musical reference points like that, you just know something good is coming your way when the album drops.

The Fever Dreamer LP is now up for pre-order in digital and limited-edition vinyl versions on Bandcamp. It’s out on the 19th of September, and the band holds a listening party on Bandcamp the night before at 7pm UK time. For album news, hit up Claw The Thin Ice on Facebook and Instagram.
