New Music: Columboid – Aunts and Uncles

It’s been a long gestation period for the release of Aunts and Uncles by Columboid. The band, comprising Modest Mouse and Coyote members, initially laid down the song a decade ago, but it sounds box-fresh, as you can hear below.

From the EP of the same name, the song is a suspenseful, haunting blend of rock, Gothic undertones, and darkwave. It has a theatrical tone, primarily in the lyrics, but also in the brooding presence of the vocals’ chorus and raw emotion, as if at any moment the darkness implicit in the song will eventually overwhelm both the protagonist and listener.

They say about the track, “It was recorded in 2010 at Metrosonic studio in Brooklyn. The lyrics are about going through things in life that are ‘normal’ by most standards but can be frightening or grating for others.”

You can listen to the Aunts and Uncles EP on Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Spotify. Catch up with Columboid via Facebook and Twitter to discover more about the band and their music, as well as find more streaming and downloading options for the EP.
