New Music: Corella – I Didn’t Know Your Name

This month saw the release of Once Upon a Weekend, the debut album from anthemic Manchester indie-poppers Corella. The powerful featured track I Didn’t Know Your Name is sure to be a highlight of their current UK tour.

Every element of I Didn’t Know Your Name leaves the band emotionally exposed, giving the moving lyrics and impassioned vocals added impact. It’s not a dark song, though, as the arrangement mixes raw energy with a polished and self-assured sound. For such a young band, they tackle a complex issue confidently and sensitively here.

They say about the song, “I Didn’t Know Your Name is one of our favourite tracks from [Once Upon a Weekend]. We wrote this about wanting to turn back time in a toxic relationship, back to when you didn’t know who they were and to start again. From the first drum hit the song just keeps rising, definitely one we are looking forward to touring.”

The band’s current UK tour also sees them embark on side-quests to Germany and The Netherlands, finishing up in what is certain to be a triumphant home town gig at Manchester’s O2 Ritz.
