New Music: Das Kope – We Must Be Out Of Our Minds

The distorted and wonky lo-fi sound of We Must Be Out Of Our Minds by Los Angeles based musician Das Kope is a trip in more ways than one.

The late 60s output of the American West Coast can be heard, psychedelia and soft rock having a strong role in the track’s opening minute or so.

But the song’s initial lullaby-style innocence soon transforms into something less bright and cheerful, as it becomes more like the distantly heard soundtrack of a horror movie on a well-worn VHS tape.

It’ll get you looking over your shoulder at half-glimpsed shadows, and contemplating half-conceived fears, something very much in tune with the theme of the lyrics.

“I tried to write a waltz about 21st-century anxiety and came up with We Must Be Out of Our Minds,” says Das Kope. “I’m still figuring out what it’s really about.”
