New Music: dayaway – beam me up
Ahead of the release of the ghost beach EP, dayaway – the indie pop project of Queens-based Amber Renee – has treated us to featured song beam me up.
Lush and languid, beam me up has a shimmering, summery, sound that reverberates with warm tones and nostalgic resonances. Thanks to its retro-infused pop feel and the daydream ambience that pervades the lyrics and arrangement, it’ll go down a treat with fans of Royel Otis and Tennis.

Says Renee, “beam me up is about a kind of young love that’s all consuming and obsessive. When I wrote it, I was thinking about my summers as a teenager, going to pool parties at a friend’s house or meeting a crush at the beach. It all felt so intense and visceral back then.”
She adds about the video clip, “I was really inspired by glowing visuals, like neon swimming pools and hazy lights, so I wanted to paint a picture of an otherworldly love that felt like a UFO abduction. It was super fun to create a video that captured that imagery so perfectly.”
Head over to Bandcamp to download beam me up, while you can also hear the track and more music from dayaway on Apple Music, YouTube, and Spotify.
ghost beach comes out on the 14th of August via Turn to Wind. For more EP news and listening options, check out dayaway on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok.
