New Music: Death Hags – Synthetic Nature
Lola G aka Death Hags has teamed up with visual artist/DJ/musician Marina Aguerre to create the audio-visual bliss that is recent single and accompanying video clip, Synthetic Nature. The track features on the third instalment of Death Hags’ ongoing seven-volume series of albums, BIG GREY SUN.
Late-night downtempo with an ambient twist, Synthetic Nature has a wonderfully hypnotic quality to it – as do the accompanying visuals. The sweeping tones of the synths and the whispered vocals temper the deceptively pacey percussion, while the two strands also echo the arrangement’s fusion of the natural and the synthetic, giving the listener a brief respite from the world around them.
Says Death Hags about the track, “Synthetic Nature is a fever dream about the seduction of hyper modernity and the confusion it causes in our brains. The more we race towards a post-human world of synthetic beings and biology, the more we long to go back to what we think is Nature, only to find (to paraphrase Baudrillard) that we only have the map and not the territory.”
