With some live UK and American dates on the way, Londoners Empathy Test (Isaac Howlett  and Adam Relf along with live members Chrisy Lopez  and Sam Winter-Quick) have dropped Empty-handed, their upcoming single, on Soundcloud.

The band have made their name both live and on record over the last few years with their sweeping electro-ballads, but Empty-handed shows their musical palette has a lot more to it than finely crafted slow burners.

It has that rousing melancholia both in the arrangement and lyrics that we’ve come to expect from the masters of the happy/sad sound, but the arpeggios have a more definitive, confident quality to them for a start.

There’s a greater lushness, a sense of grandeur and the future about it. It invites favourable comparisons with Mind.In.A.Box in the way it evokes rain-soaked, neon-lit empty nights, making it a perfect musical companion for daydreams of electric sheep.

Empty-handed is out on 20th June 2019 on both CD and vinyl – you can pre-order it on Bandcamp. Empathy Test are soon embarking on a double headliner tour of the UK in June with Actors – check out their Facebook and Twitter accounts to find our more. Dates with Aesthetic Perfection in the US follow in September.
