New Music: Fern Murphy – hanging moon

On this second track from their imminent via negative album, Fern Murphy reveal another aspect to their take on shoegaze with hanging moon.

In contrast to last month’s latchkey single, which will also appear on the LP, Indianapolis-based Fern Murphy find themselves exploring a softer, introspective arrangement and melody. The vocals glide smoothly over the merging of dream pop and shoegaze, as the percussion allows the track to unobtrusively marshal itself around a trip-hop beat.

Like latchkey, you can detect the subtle influences of Slowdive, but better comparisons for hanging moon would fellow be mid-westerners Sungaze, or Philadelphia’s Cigarettes for Breakfast, music where the emotional integrity of the vocals and lyrics plays a vital, central role within the music.
