New Music: Glassio – Off the Cuff
Indie-electro with a decidedly chilled tone and tempo, Glassio charmed us with Off the Cuff, from his new album, The Imposter.
The album is part of a project where the Brooklyn-based Irish-Iranian musician has allowed his brother to slowly take his place on social media, examining identity and individuality.
Music is the point where the focus will invariably fall, and here, Glassio does wonderfully. Little details – the cuckoo-like effect, for example – frame the narrative, as do the vocals. In a duet, possibly with himself, they give two distinct emotional registers to Off the Cuff, leaving you wanting to know more about Glassio and, in turn, the album.
The accompanying video follows similar themes, blurring not just identities but also the standard tropes of a video, as pastoral and Lynchian as the subtle psychedelia of the song itself.
The Imposter is set for release on the 25th of February, with appearances at The New Colossus Festival in New York and Austin’s SXSW (Austin, TX) already lined up. Make your way to Glassio’s Instagram and Facebook pages for album and gig updates.
