New Music: Hard Chiller – Close By

The David Cronenberg style visuals and body horror ambience of the accompanying video for Hard Chiller’s Close By doesn’t outdo the primal magnificence of the song itself. The track is a taster for the Californian outfit’s Heavy Cell EP.

On Close By, Hard Chiller – formed by Steve Choi of RX Bandits and Joe Vannucchi of From Indian Lakes – whip up a sonic and emotional storm, with occasional moments of relief heightening the dark energy of the arrangement.

One thing that must be said, and it’s something that marks the track out from a lot of current guitar-oriented rock, is its smooth appropriation of elements from grunge, post-hardcore, and shoegaze. It’s a stylish fusion that makes for an out of the ordinary listening experience. Awesome stuff indeed.
