New Music: Hello Shannon – The Sounds of Sleeping
Dallas-based wife and husband duo Shannon and Jonathan Camacho are Hello Shannon. Citing Kimbra, Imogen Heap, and James Blake as influences gives you an indication of where they are coming from musically, but it doesn’t prepare you for the beauty of The Sounds of Sleeping.
“The Sound of Sleeping is meant to sound like the way insomnia feels,” says the band, something the duo captures perfectly here. Just as insomnia is sometimes a combination of activity and stillness, that duality is something you can pick up from the song. The vocals are full of movement and emotion, gentle yet rich in unspoken meanings, and the subdued arrangement reflects that feeling perfectly. But you still get the sense of time moving, things evolving, even as you lie or sit there, aware yet not fully a part of the passage of time.
The song is also streaming on Spotify. You can get more details on how to listen to The Sounds of Sleeping by checking out Hello Shannon on their social media accounts, which include Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
