Introducing: The Ombudsmen

Introducing: The Ombudsmen

Published On: December 14th, 2021|

Manchester is always coming up with some interesting and innovative sounds, and the newest and freshest on the block is The Ombudsmen. Despite lacking a lead singer until recently, they’ve garnered quite a bit if attention with their bracing fusion of indie, psych rock, and doom. Read on to find out more.

First up, tell us something about the members of The Ombudsmen?

We’re a four piece from South Manchester. We’ve got the Calcium Kid on keys, Ice Man the actor on guitar, the Mascara Snake on vocals and on drums n bass it’s Little Chef.

What inspires the band to write music?

There’s no particular inspiration behind the band, except for vague dislike and disinterest for what’s currently in the charts. We also really enjoy playing with some of our contemporaries on the Manchester music scene. That’s nice.

Who would you say has had the most influence on your sound?

There’s no one act we’re all really into. Our influence is a mish mash of the likes of Bach on Lotti’s part, Beefheart on Little Chef’s, and Chilli Peppers with Ice Man.

What has been the biggest challenge the band has faced so far?

Our biggest challenge has been not having a singer, but we still managed to make really interesting music. The singer bit has now changed and we can’t wait to wow you with our lyrics soon.

Introducing: The Ombudsmen

What has been the nicest thing ever written or said about you?

My favourite was Devo meets The Prodigy after a speed binge session! :)

What was the last piece of music to listened to?

Toots and the Maytals – Funky Kingston

If you could support any band or musician, who would it be and why?

I’d say we’d all go with Sea Power; they’ve given the chance to some really interesting bands over the years, and I think we’d fit that mould. What other Manchester bands do we need to be checking out right now?

What other Manchester bands do we need to be checking out right now?

If you haven’t already then definitely The Battery Farm. Four Candles and XUP make a good racket too.

Could you tell us about your recent single, Lovely Steroid User?

It’s Ombudsmen in a two and half minute nutshell. A Shri; wind.

Give us a few hints on what’s in store next for The Ombudsmen…

As alluded to earlier, we’ve recruited a singer, who may or may not be ready for our next gig, but soon!

Be sure to check out The Ombudsmen on Facebook for news on new music and upcoming gigs.
