New Music: Laura J Martin – Prepared

Liverpool-based musician Laura J Martin is gearing up for the release of her first solo album in eight years by dropping this enchanted accompanying video for the album’ title track, Prepared. The video was filmed at Lancashire’s Martin Mere Wetlands Centre.

The song has elements of electronica and folk woven into its deeply atmospheric and intimate arrangement. Martin’s vocals combine the pop sensibility of Sarah Cracknell with the otherworldly reverie of Kate Bush, creating a sense that the seeming permanence of nature’s rhythms – and our small place in it – informs the very essence of the song.

Says Martin about the track, “Prepared is a hymn to self-reliance but not to perfection, it’s to working your own routes and abandoning the tape measure. In part it’s looking back at ways you judged yourself in past encounters and not recognising yourself: ‘I turned away again, was I even there?’”

Prepared is Martin’s first solo long player since 2016’s On The Never Never, and is set for release on the 17^th of May.
