New Music: Lauren Lakis – Leave Your Window Open

Lauren Lakis describes Leave Your Window Open as “Your typical love song (with a vampiric twist).” It’s not the only surprise the Baltimore-born artist serves up on this dark treasure of a song. Think Slowdive and Cocteau Twins with a very post-rock flavour, you’ll get a feel for this mesmerising, moody gem.

The arrangement’s nods to the classic days of shoegaze and indie create a sonic palette suitable for this tale of reluctant vampirism. Says Lakis of the song’s protagonist, “She suffers when she stalks, she suffers when she doesn’t stalk; only deriving pleasure and satisfaction through the consumption of blood. But she doesn’t want to kill anyone! A monster with a conscience.”

Leave Your Window Open will also feature on Lakis’ upcoming album A Fiesta and a Hell, which is set for release on the 6th of October via Green Witch Recordings.

Lauren Lakis has scheduled a series of live appearances in the wake of the album’s release, including a release party at Swan Dive in Austin. Other dates will see her pitch up Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Houston.
