New Music: Leto Grand – Lovely Walk

As soon as you hear that cheeky Grace Jones inspired sample, you know that Lovely Walk is going to be something grand indeed.

The title track from Leto Grand’s new EP, it’s funk, but from a distinctly British perspective, especially as Grand’s delivery has a Baxter Dury style deadpan vibe at times, but also has a similar flirtatious ambience to it. The rhythm section is so tight that a corset would get jealous, and the brass section would be as at home in New Orleans as in its native Hackney in east London. Most of all, it’s a whole lot of fun and is perfect festival or Sunday morning music.

Lovely Walk is playful, as it finds itself exploring sounds that have a distinctly 80s feel: Talking Heads, Pigbag, but phase-shifting that into the present, a witty and infectious attitude to music that fans of Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem are sure to warm to.
