New Music: machine learner – If I Survive

The cleverly-conceived video isn’t the only thing that piqued our interest in If I Survive, the new single from Seattle, Washington based machine learner.

machine learner, the solo project of musician Walter Young, starts as a densely textured piece of shoegaze at its most sublime, but gradually draws in the listener in some surprising directions.

Filigrees of electronica take on a greater role in the central section of the track, arpeggios lifting the song ever higher, but always retaining its dreamy roots. It’s a bit Slowdive at times; it’s also a bit Jarre in those pulsating electronic rhythms, but as a piece of music, it’s 100% original.
