New Music: Magnetic Skies – A Place on Earth
Ahead of two high-profile gigs heading our way, Magnetic Skies get contemplative in a classic British New Wave style on A Place on Earth.
With icy synths and thundering bass line – not to mention the doomily romantic vocals – A Place on Earth has a strong 80s UK pop feel to it, though coming from a noirish, almost dark wave, foundation at times.
The band doesn’t neglect to need to create a song that people will want to remember, however, with the refrain “Can you see a place on earth, That’s yours and mine” echoing throughout the track – and your memory long after the final notes have faded away.

“We wanted to create something sharp, urgent, and full of energy – taking inspiration from Bowie’s Fashion but making it our own,” says vocalist Simon Kent. “It’s a song about finding your place in a chaotic world.”
Magnetic Skies are Simon Kent on vocals, keyboards, guitar, and bass; Jo Womar on keyboards and vocals; and Lenin Alegria on drums.
The band plays London on the 12th of April and Brighton on the 25th of May. A Place on Earth can be downloaded on Bandcamp. For streaming options and live news, head to the trio’s Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram accounts.
