New Music: Magnetic Skies – Not A Fire

Magnetic Skies have played with the likes of ACTORS and Empathy Test recently and when you hear Not A Fire, you can understand why they’re such a good fit for those bands.

Not A Fire explores the melodic and emotive end of post-punk and synth-led rock, akin not just to those aforementioned bands, but also Palm Ghosts and Interpol. The track – which features on the recently-released Empire Falling album – stays away from the darker shades of the genres as the pop-inclined chorus tends to the anthemic at times. The song does carry an air of melancholia about it, but the overall feeling is one of warmth and positivity.

Says Magnetic Skies frontman Simon Kent about Empire Falling, “The album is reflective, poetic, and it takes you on a journey lyrically, and in mood from sad nostalgia through to happiness and euphoria. I hope the listener can relate to the sounds and lyrics, find some connection on a personal level – I’d like to move them in an emotional way.”

He continues, “It’s nice to close the opening chapter on the band and capture the songs that evolved as the band came together from a duo to a 4-piece, and while we were learning how to work together.”

Magnetic Skies are Simon Kent on vocals, Jo Womar on keyboards, Carlos Aguilar on guitars, and Lenin Alegria on drums. Empire Falling is available in digital and CD formats on Bandcamp. The album can also be heard on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and YouTube.

The band plays The Lexington in London on the 19th of November and The Winchester Gate in Salisbury on the 25th of November. Hit up the quartet on TikTok, Facebook, or Instagram for ticket details.
