It’s been a decade since New Zealander Miriam Clancy released her Magnetic album, but the wait for new music has been broken with considerable élan on The Sound.

The track, which is from her upcoming Astronomy album, sees her build on the intelligent pop of her last LP. With hints of Cocteau Twins and CHRVCHES (though her work predates the latter) entwined in the song, it has a bassline that reverberates and rolls like an unexpected thunderstorm on a summer’s day. The song has a gentle heart, due to her lighter-than-air vocals and the wispy lead guitar, but succeeds in being confident and engaging in turn.

The Sound is also streaming on Bandcamp and Spotify. Astronomy is due out on September 27th so why not head over to her Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to find out more about Clancy and the album.
