New Music: NIGHT LEATHER – HOTEL BAR

The eponymous album from New Jersey’s NIGHT LEATHER makes for a wonderfully dark electro/Italo listening experience. You might not be familiar with the band as yet, but once you listen to HOTEL BAR, you’ll want to hear more.

The band, comprising Pupa, M Gornick, R Ward, and V Oberkampf, whip up a brooding bruising storm of a sound on HOTEL BAR. The dub/post-punk guitar and bass intro led me to expect something in the line of Bauhaus or The Birthday Party, and elements of that sound certainly inhabit the song throughout.

The vocals and metronomic percussion, uplifting yet slightly melancholic, create an air of sadness and a hint of violence, even as your brain is telling your feet to head to the dancefloor. If you’re familiar with acts like Icon of Coil and Necessary Response, then the music of NIGHT LEATHER is for you.

You can catch up with NIGHT LEATHER via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can listen to the HOTEL BAR and more music from the band on Spotify and Apple Music. In addition, you can stream and download the NIGHT LEATHER album on Bandcamp.
