New Music: oddnesse – All American Lie

From the outside, America can seem like a land of limitless opportunity and positivity. But some see the States in a different way, as oddnesse (Rebeca Arango, along with Grey Goon, and Casey Feldman) explores on new track, All American Lie

The track takes some very American sounds and inverts them with a confident style. It has a bright, shoegaze/alt.rock quality, and an initial evocation of the American dream. Still, as Arango’s lyrics and the martial undertones to the percussion take a more assertive role, her velvet vocals shine a harsh light on the empty dreams and catchphrases which lie behind that often-unattainable ideal.

Rebeca Arango had this to say about All American Lie: “This song came from the gut-wrenching experience of facing my own personal denial. For years I lied to myself, thinking I was okay to self-compromise in the name of productivity, status or success. The American dream. I oversubscribed to values of ‘positive thinking’, ‘not complaining’, and ‘being of service’ just to keep my soul in golden handcuffs where I thought I was safest. Zooming out, the song speaks to a larger spiritual dissonance of an entire culture wanting to run away with the parade rather than face the fire.”

All American Lie can be streamed or downloaded on all major platforms now. Head over to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter for details on how to listen to the song, as well as keeping up to date with news about further releases and live appearances.
