Deep Dive: Reptile Tile – Shopping Around (feat. Period Bomb)

The wild ride of the official video isn’t the only thing to love about Shopping Around, which sees Virginia’s Reptile Tile team up with Period Bomb.

We loved the scuzzy, fuzzy feel of it all so much that we got the band to tell us a bit more about how it all came about.

Genesis of the song and lyrics

The song was written effortlessly, as if it wrote itself. Camila from Period Bomb and Roderick from Reptile Tile just started improvising this vocal duet together, and it came out perfect on the first take. The song was recorded to tape at Dragonship Studio in Virginia.

Instrumentation and recording

The track features Terry Cloth on vocals, guitar, bass, synthesizer; Cami Alvarez on vocals; Gerry Gemstone on drums; Zac Plastic on saxophone and synthesizer; Chase Evers Cochran on lead guitar; and Mikah Beale-Scott on tambourines and shakers. It was mixed by Ken Shiro and Terry Cloth at Dragonship Studio.  

Where does this particular track fit within your wider body of work?

This is the first single from Reptile Tile’s forthcoming full-length album, Looking for Leandro, on Picky Choosy Records.  It also appeared on Crass Lips’ eighth annual compilation tape.

Reptile Tile has another video following shortly that was also filmed by uncle dad productions in LA and also features Period Bomb. 

They also have an upcoming 7-inch record and video for a collaboration we did with Geneva Jacuzzi: the Candy Boy EP that is also being released on Picky Choosy. We’re resuming live performances with a full band line-up to promote the releases of each record.

What are you up to in the coming months?

Reptile Tile and Period Bomb are long-term collaborators who share a really special track record of producing highly creative yet catchy songs. They plan on coming up with even more songs together for the next Period Bomb record as soon as the Reptile Tile record comes out.
