Rina Sawayama released their Hold The Girl album last month to much critical acclaim and the delight of her legions of fans. They’ve just dropped a video for featured track Frankenstein, which you can watch below.

Gothic imagery in the lyrics meets a full-on rock belter in the arrangement, as Sawayama lets rip not just vocally, but emotionally too. It seems unfair to pick out one track from such a stellar album, but Frankenstein is such a metal bop, a song to go wild to, that I’ve got to say it’s definitely one of my favourites from Hold The Girl.

Says Sawayama about Frankenstein, “I had two days in the studio with Paul Epworth, and we wrote Frankenstein on the first day… I was writing about realizing that it’s not okay to give one person in your life all this baggage to deal with, whether it’s a lover or a best friend or someone else close to you, and asking them to put you back together when that’s not their job… It’s actually Matt Tong playing drums on this track, which is insane. I grew up going to gigs around my area in Camden, and it was one of the best, most hedonistic and chaotic times of my life, and I wanted to reference that frantic energy”

Sawayama tours North America in November, you can get details here, but be sure to check their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds for news on more dates around the world.
